Yes, there are many challenges you meet everyday. There are “Special customers” you have to tend to and lots of obstacles you have to go around. I had months where every job took me more than 2hrs to finish and i had months where i was in and out of a house in less than 1/2 and hour. In my humble opinion, the guys who have it rough are the guys who work in residential/commercial areas where you have to do pole work. Dragging out a 20ft ladder, extending it and climbing up it on a very cold day can get to you. The worst is going into someone backyard and gaffing a pole (spikes on your boots) and working up 50 feet off the ground in adverse weather.

When i was brand new on the job, when analog cable was still a “thing” an asian man came up to me while i was in between jobs. He told me that they cut off his cable by mistake and asked if i can reconnect it. Being naive & want to have good customer service at the time, i went up on the roof where our equipment was located and saw that his line was “tagged” (the port was blocked by a security device) and put him back on the 8 port tap. Went downstairs and he was delighted that the cable came back on. As i was leaving the chinese restaurant, i see that there was old analog boxes that we did not use anymore but FIXED for hot cable boxes. He saw look at them and told me that he will call next time to get them changed out. He told me to order anything on the menu which i ordered shrimp and lobster and they prepared it for me and gave me 2 cans of soda. On my way back into the truck he shoves money in my breastpocket and didn't think much of it. later on i see that it was more than a $20 tip he gave me - he gave me $300 in $20 dollar bills!!

-I Was on lunch on the westside of manhattan & a spanish guy comes up to me while im in my truck having lunch. He gives me the sad story that he missed his appointment and if i can install cable in his place. He is telling me profusely that he will “take care of me” and escorts me upstairs to his apartment. He has about a dozen guests in his apartment and all of them are happy to see me and offer me food and drink which i decline since im on the job. I tell the dispatcher that im installing the equipment in his house and to activate the equipment that i installed in his apartment. As soon as the t.v. comes on, everybody is cheerful and happy claps like i performed some type of miracle. When im about to leave his apartment, he shoves a beer in my toolbag and shoves a bunch of money in my breastpocket. A lot of people ask if a cyber security degree is a difficult degree to obtain.  Obviously, it is true that some degrees tend to be more difficult than others. Since cyber security is a newer degree option available at most colleges, I decided to take a look and see how difficult a cyber security degree is compared to other degree majors.

So, is a cyber security degree difficult?  A cyber security degree typically has average to above average difficulty compared to other degree programs.  Cyber security degrees tend to be more challenging than non-research type majors, such as programs in the humanities or business, but are usually not as difficult as degrees in research or lab intensive areas, such as science and engineering.

Let’s take a look at the specific parts of a cyber security degree that make it easier or more challenging than other options, and whether a degree in cyber security may be for you.

Why a cyber security degree is easier than some other options

When comparing college programs at the associate or bachelor’s degree level, an objective review indicates that most cyber security programs are not as difficult as many programs in science and engineering related areas.  Specifically, degrees in fields such as biochemistry, physics, mechanical engineering and even computer science appear to be more challenging than common degree programs in cyber security. Here are a few reasons why.

Math and science requirements are easier

The first factor that indicates a cyber security program may be less difficult than the other majors listed above is that most cyber security programs that were reviewed did not require higher level math or science general education classes.  In many cases, cyber security programs were limited to one lab-based science requirement and a math course requirement that was lower level, such as college math or statistics. Most programs did not require higher level or multiple science classes or a higher level math, such as calculus.  

In comparison, all of the science and engineering programs reviewed, including those in computer science, either recommended or require at least one level of calculus and multiple lab-based science courses.  These courses are often the most challenging for students enrolling for the first time in college or returning to college after an extended period of time. If you pursue a degree in cyber security, you can often find a path to graduation without being required to take calculus, chemistry or other subjects known to be challenging.

What is a CCNA Level Engineer and What Do They Do?

The IT support and services industry is somewhat different than other industries offering professional services to businesses. While the financial industry, lawyers, accountants, and others have industry-standard certifications and required licensing to do business, the IT industry does not.

That’s not to say that there are no benchmarks that IT services professionals meet. Instead of an industry governing body – or the government – setting specific qualifications to do business as an IT professional, certifications are earned from the various hardware and software vendors to prove competency in servicing that specific hardware or software solution.

CCNA is one of those vendor certifications that network engineers work, learn, and test to earn.

What Is The Process To Achieve A CCNA Designation?

The training to take the exams is available to applicants in the form of online courses, hard copy books, and in a classroom setting. Once the individual has gone through the material and has proven an acceptable understanding of the material, he/she goes on to take the exam.

Cisco’s CCNA exams are different from the exams you took in school. Cisco exams do not have a set pass/fail score. The pass/fail score fluctuates according to statistical analysis. So going into the exam, the candidate does not know how many questions he/she must answer correctly to pass the test.

After the candidate takes the exam, a report is generated by Cisco showing how the candidate did on each piece of the exam along with an indication as to whether the candidate passed or failed.

If the candidate passes, they are then CCNA certified for the next three years. The recertification process involves taking the exam (but not exactly the same questions) again or taking a test from a higher Cisco certification tier.
